Statement to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health on the draft of the Mental Health Strategy (TAS 298/2019, issued on 28 October 2019)
In his statement, the Ombudsman for Equality requested that a gender perspective be added to the Mental Health Strategy.
Gender equality and the prevention of gender-related discrimination help enhance the well-being of people and instil a sense of fairness. This also has an effect on mental health.
There are gender-related differences when it comes to mental health, psychological issues and illnesses, as well as the services that people need and use. It is vital that statistics are collected on these factors and that they are studied, and these gender-related differences must be taken into account in any proposed solutions and mental health services.
